Monk's Sunset

Inspired by a series of events in Manhattan’s Flower District involving Thelonious Monk and W. Eugene Smith, this  Liverpool jazz club seeks to utilise the city’s magnificent sunsets as a backdrop to the user plunged into the jazz world.

Little Rootie Tootie, a song performed by Monk and Overton,  inspires abstracted forms which symoblise jazz specific terminology.

Performers are respected as masters of their craft whilst visitors are encouraged to consider and experience the music in a beautiful setting.

The urban response allows the partial retention and enhancement of a public square, repurposing what is now a cut through rather than a destination.
